Today’s plan was to have the skins riveted to the spar, almost made it but it took so long to deburr the holes in all of the skin pieces that I tapped out before getting to the trailing edge. Heat and humidity is real and not what this English boy is used to.
After the great deburring, I found my old 2×2 steel tubes and set them on the bench, and made a 16mm block out of some shims to place under one of the blocks per the plans; I had to do this for the 750 rudder, too. Placed the skin on the tubes and skid the skeleton inside and clecoed the skin to the ribs.
Flipped it over and did the same for the other side, making sure to transfer the shim block so the bottom corner stayed a little elevated. After that I looked at the position of the tip rib when it is attached to the bent strip at the top of the rudder and sure enough I had the bent strip upside down so I turned it around and riveted it to the spar, and then riveted the top rib to it.
You can see there are no holes in the tip rib so I am going to be drilling some holes after all, but it goes inside the plastic tip cover so first you need to draw the rivet line 10mm from the edge on the tip. I was excited that I got to use my edge distance marking tool again, it was one of my favourite things to do on the 750 build.
You then put that over the tip rib, center the line with the pre drilled holes in the skin and drill. I gave it a trial fit but that faint red line was impossible to see so I redid it with a black pen that still worked well, and that showed up much better. But I’d already been at the hangar longer than planned so decided to stop there and pick that up next time.
